2012 Membership Dues
All 2011 STM memberships expired as of midnight December 31, 2011. If you have not already done so, please consider paying your membership dues online so that you continue to receive access to the “International Journal of Hyperthermia”, and so that you are eligible to vote in the upcoming election, and so that you receive the discounted rates for your Annual Meeting Registration fees.

2012 Annual Meeting
The 29th Annual Meeting of the Society for Thermal Medicine is scheduled for April 13-16, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. Please save these dates on you calendar. We will meet at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront hotel. The theme for the Annual Meeting is “Thermal Medicine at the Intersection of Tumor Biology.”

Keynote Speakers Announced
Program Committee Chair Sharon Evans has confirmed that four keynote speakers will address the attendees of the 29th Annual Meeting of the Society for Thermal Medicine:

On Friday, Mark Dewhirst, PhD, DVM - IJH Editor; Dept of Radiation Oncology at Duke University Medical Center will deliver the Opening Night Keynote Address titled, “ New Insights into the Biologic Impact of Thermal Therapy: Lessons from Prospective Thermal Dosimetry Trials”.

On Saturday, Franco Orsi, Medical Director at the Unita de Radiologia Interventistica, in Milano, Italy will provide the keynote address titled, “The Growth and Development of HIFU”.

On Sunday, Ralph R. Weichselbaum, Director for the Department of Radiation & Cellular Oncology at the Ludwig Center for Metastasis Research at The University of Chicago Medical Center will deliver the keynote address, “The Immunological Aspects of Radiation Therapy.”

On Monday, Steven L. Jacques, Professor of Dermatology & Biomedical Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University will deliver the keynote address titled, “The Use of Biomedical Optics and Medical Lasers as it Relates to the Treatment of Cancer and Cancer Biology.”

The STM Annual Meeting continues to grow each year with a line-up of exceptional speakers and an open exchange of the latest research and clinical trial data. Over 150 oral and poster presentations are scheduled during this annual event.

Call for Abstracts – January 20 Submission Deadline
Program Chair Sharon Evans has issued a Call for Abstracts for the 2012 Annual Meeting Program. If you have an abstract presentation that you would like to share with colleagues, please submit your abstract online using the abstract submission template.

2012 Election of Officers and Councilors – Coming Soon!
Eligible voters will have an opportunity to vote in the upcoming STM Election. Active Members and Emeritus Members in good standing will be invited to vote for new officers and councilors during the upcoming Election. Please make sure your dues are paid for 2012 and look for election announcements that will include candidate biographies and online voting instructions.
